Microsoft Word Header/Footer

By veolaman ·
When I start Microsoft word, the header and footer are missing... inother words, the page (I usually have it in print layout view) is shorter. If I view header/footer and exit them, then it returns to normal until I close the doc. It even does this on existing documents. When I open them it has the header and footer cut off - on one particular document I can even see part of the header as it's pretty big but it's cut off. Again, if I act like I'm going to edit the header and then get out of it I can see the doc like normal. What can I do to fix this as it is very anoying?

Missing white space

The setting for showing white space between pages may have been turned off. To show white space between pages, do the following:

On the View menu, click Print Layout.
On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the View tab.
Under Print and Web Layout options, select the White space between pages (Print view only) check box.

Missing Heading

Thanks also Neil.
I've spent hours trying to fix exactly this problem. Renamed, recreated to no avail.
Obviously, after clicking on View Header Footer then checking Tools Options, it seemed to "fix" but only your approach worked after exiting & restarting Word.

Thanks again
