By bfisher ·
Running Word 2000 with Windows 98SE. When attempt to open Word, receive error " Winword caused an invalid page fault in module winword.exe @ 017f:30215216". Was running Word 97 but then started to receive the same error. Installed 2000 but receive the same error. Any ideas?

Microsoft Word invalid page fault

Microsoft, as usual, has about 20 versions of Word floating out there, and the upgrade path is torturous and full of pitfalls. You will have to completely un-install word ( both versions ), starting with settings-controlpanel-add/install programs.
After the un-install bombs, which it will, you will have to run a registry cleaner, available from Microsoft downloads, and get rid of any last vestiges of 97 and the corrupt 2000.

Then do a fresh install of 2000, and you should be back in business.

Note: there are a lot of freeware and shareware registry cleaners available which will do the trick.
