Microsoft Word Startup Problems

By drwho7 ·
I am having problems on a computer running Windows XP with Office XP. I have setup seperate user accounts with a family, and one particular login name cannot start Word properly, when she double clicks on the word icon it starts up in safemode. I have done virus checks, unloaded and reloaded microsoft word, and also created a new user account, but I still receive the same problem, does anyone have any suggestions??

Word startup problems

When you created a new user account, did you let the profile be created from scratch or did you copy over the old profile to maintain settings? If you copied over the old profile you may have copied a corrupt user data file for Office/Word.

created a user account from scratch

I created a user account from scratch. It has been awhile since I looked at this problem, but my client is still having the same issues. It would be interesting if I could get this resolved.

Thanks for the reply

I would say it is one of 2 things:

1.) The is corrupt for this person. You may need to rename the file so that Word will create a new one.

It can be found in C:\Documents and Settings\[USer ID Here]\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates

The Application Data folder is a hidden folder so make sure that you have this login set to view hidden files and folders.

2.) It is a rights issue. Try loging in as administrator and give this user Modify rights to the whole C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\ folder making sure to reset file permisions on all subfolders.

Hop this helps!
