Not sure how to answer that question.. not even the experts know that.. I dont even think Bill Gates himself knows that.. You'll just have to wait and see.. this will probably be in the courts for years, on appeal.. Get your MCSE anyway, it certainly couldnt hurt..

Given the current court system here, and the analysis I have read thus far, this will be tied in appeals for at least two years. Event if the DOJ does manage to split up MS, it will not happen for quite a while. By the time it does, the MS marketing will have the spin control and there will be plenty of literature on how to deal with the new entities.

Reading the initial decision, if it went forward today, MS1 would own Windows95, 98, NT, 2000, ME, etc. MS2 would own all applications, Back Office, Office, IE, Project, Games, etc.

My question is, is that good for Back Office products, and where does SBS go?

hmmm, first of all, I agree, it will be a long time before anything is resolved here. The appeals will take some time. Meanwhile, I don't see how the government can keep both companies (in the event of a split) from working together since the OS side has worked so extensively with the software side... to split them entirely and prohibit contact from each other would be a mistake of magnitudes that eventually the govt. has to see. Basically, it is an investor's sweat at this point. I don't think Microsoft is going to slow down their current focus, although they probably have a fairly good backup plan in progress.

Bill has his people in place to take on the business in either case. He has nothing to lose. At this point it is the business and the investors and the entire cyber industry that has to worry about what will happen 'after the fall' if it does occur.

I have it on very good authority that Bill Gates will soon be graduating from an elite Clown College, and he intends to make the world a happier place by performing wacky antics and delightful stunts.

Steve Balmer will likely take control of the Applications Corporation, rename it "Apps R US," and begin to transition the company towards open-source application development.

The Operating System Company will probably be operated by various people hired from a Redmond Temp agency for a few months, and then be burned to the ground by an angry mob.
