Migrate SBS 4.5 from computer to another

by yi1 . Updated 23 years, 4 months ago

I have an SBS 4.5 on an old machine that doesn’t have enough juice. I am planning to upgrade the hardware. I made a fresh installation of SBS on the new machine. I managed to migrate users, licenses, and Exchange Databases by following the steps in the articles 228980 and 236867 from the knowledge base on Microsoft website.

The issue I am concerned about is: the users have own local profiles. So, when I am resetting the machine by moving it to workgroup, restart, and moving it back to the domain “ the domain name on the new server is the same on the old.” When the users are logging on to the domain, they are getting new profiles. I think this issue is related to the SID of the workstations.

Have I miss something? Oris there a way to migrate the workstations and keep the old SID so I can get the old profiles?

P.S.: I just added a BDC on the network. If I move the BDC and let it join the new server on a separate network so I can migrate the workstations SID, is this applicable? If not, can you please help me.

Thanks

YI
