What backup software did you use ?

I have had experience with doing this using backup exec. You do a fresh install of NT4 on your new machine (call it a different machine name) but dont let it install to \winnt call the folder something like \newwinnt, we just want to get a basic machine up and running and then joined to your domain.

The next step is to do a redirected restore of your old machines C: drive to your new machine ensuring that it over-writes all files.

After a reboot you should be back up with the old machine again. Install any drivers for your different hardware, then you can think about restoring you databases and other user data.
