Migrating from LAN to WAN

by daniel . Updated 25 years, 9 months ago

We currently deploy a separate LAN at each of our six locations, each of which is running NT Server 4.0 on an HP E60 Server. Each server is configured as a PDC, using DHCP to connect to the Windows 95 clients. The LANs currently do not communicatein any way with each other. Once our T1 line is ready, we want to create a “Virtual Private Network”, with the PDC at our main location, and the five remaining locations configured as BDCs to authenticate / replicate to the main PDC.

What I am interested in is finding the best approach to converting the current PDCs at the five locations to BDCs so I can have them communicate over the WAN. Can the PDCs be demoted to BDCs, or do I have to reinstall NT on each machine and configure as BDCs once the T1 line is ready?
