The users should transfer just fine, here are a few things to look up. type these in your url.

Migrating user profiles

Migrating groups to active directory

there will always be problems when migrating, but since win2k migrations have been going on for some time now, most of the issues have probably already arisen, and if you look hard enough, someone has an answer.
Research is the best tool in this case. And remember, if it looks simple after reading it, test it (on a test domain) and see what problems you come up with. Then start the rollout in phases, do a beta on some power users, and get their feedback.

some more tips on migration from NT4 to Win2K...

1.Fix existing problems before considering migration.
2.Look at H/W requirements to ensure systems can handle greater load.
3.Avoid sharing server roles on a single system.
4.Establish and configure atleast 2 DCs.
5.Confirm proper WINS/DNS operation.
6.Confirm service packs and hot fixes for software and hardware.
7.Confirm compatibility for each piece of hardware and software.
