Migrating Peachtree to a new system

By Aldanatech ·
I currently have Peachtree Accounting running of a Windows 2003 Server. We want to move Peachtree and all its files to a server. Is this possible? What is the smoothest way to accomplish this? What would happen to the files created in Peachtree? What impact would it have on those who access the server?

I was the Admin at a bank about a year ago and Peachtree was a pain. Thier virsion was four years out of date, I had to migrate all the data to a new server. I was on the phone for hours with thier help desk, I had to do this on the weekend after hours and on sunday. It can be done but you will have to update each workstation and point it to the new server

The above is totally correct all you need do is move the Data File to the Server and then point each workstation that access the data to the Shared File on the Server.

That way you'll keep the privileges and not chew up all your bandwidth by attempting to run the program across the network which it will not do at all well.

If you try to run everything off the server you are going to be in a World of Pain as it tends not to work overly well and slows down the network dramatically into the bargain as well. You'll keep getting workstations being unable to log on to the program and even when they can there is no guarantee that the program will actually work particularly if it's one of the newer ones that sufferers severely from Code Bloat. It's much easier just to have the application on all the workstations and store the data on the server. The only thing that you have to look out for is that by doing it this way the program defaults to a local directory to store its Data so the entries from one workstation will be different to the stored data on another and they will not merge. After you setup the Data File on the Server you'll need to open every workstation and point them to the file on the server so that you get the correct Data Entry going.
