    Migration to new NT 4.0 server

    What is the best way to migrate to new NT4.0 server from existing NT4.0 server and keep all existing settings? Also best way to migrate data from old to new server?

      That would depend on the type of data your talking about. If it users data, home directories than just back them up and restore on the new machine. If it database data you can configure everything before hand and use a dump file to reload the database of a bulk out of data and then bulk in.

      The best way I have found was in the winnt resource kit. There is a utility called “robocopy.exe” It will transfer all data keeping all permissions intact. You can also use “addusers.exe” on the resource kit to transfer the accounts from user manager for domains from one server to another if it is not yet online.

      Greetings,

      As far the user setting is concerned, it is better to install a bdc and promote the bdc to pdc once the sync is completed.

      As far as the data, it is better to move data from one server to the other or to take the backup and restore the data.
