Way back when--Let's see. I had an associates degree in electronics but couldn't avoid the draft. I either joined or got drafted. I chose the Navy because my father was a sailor in WWII. After bootcamp, survivalcamp and POW training, I found myself in the jungle. Six months later I got to attend a class "A" school. Didn't do much for me, but the last part of the school which was equipment specific really fired me up. Further education can be gotten and often require additional enlistment commitments. Class "C" and Class"B" schools can be gotten and will further your equipment specific training. You never know, you might even get a plush assignment in HAWAII..
My youngest son just finished a 4 year enlistment in the Navy and was glad it was over but really missed the travel.. He didn't commit to anymore than 4 years so as a result didn't really get the best job or duty station but it was an experience he'll never forget and he survived. Talk to a recruiter and see what you can get. The Air Force is tops for training, the Navy next, the Army and Marines are the real GRUNTS but they get training too.
