Easily done. Purchase an IDE RAID array. Let the RAID array controller handle that function.

Just to clarify - I was looking for the no cost software option a raid controller is outside the budget at present.

I was told you could but only in xp pro.
From what I can remember you go to Control Panel, computer management, Disk management, and you have to turn both drives to dynamic drives and go from there. Check this out. I want to do the very same thing. But understood that it only works with pro, and I have the home version.
Let me know how you get on.

Thanks for the interest. I have followed all the Microsoft help pages that advise doing the above. Unfortunately right at the end it says you need windows server 2000 and doesn't complete the mirror. I'll keep you posted.

Well a lot depends on your Hardware. If you have a SATA controller these can be configured as a RAID array. If not you can always look on E-Bay for a second Hand PCI Raid Card these can be picked up very cheaply.

I would always prefer a Hardware option as I really do not trust Windows all that much to do any mission critical DR procedures.

that was a shocker for me, also. probably displays some fundemental lack of knowlege on my part about how windows works. but anyway, my 2 cents is: did you see that you CAN mirror to another network computer? better than nothing maybe and free kinda sorta if you don't count hardware....
