Missing A Drive

By vsurian ·
We have upgraded our NT4 workstations on the network to windows 2000 with Spack2. All PC's have Floppys installed but since the upgrade to 2000 some PC's about 4 are having a problem where the A; floppy drive doesnt work.It appears to be missing, like it is not installed. I cant see it in disk administrator but when we first upgraded the floppys did work on these PC's only in the last couple of days have they dissapeared

Boot up into the CMOS and see if the Floppy is detected. You may also want to open the case and disconnect the floppy and boot without it then shutdown reconnect the floppy and reboot and see if it is detected. Good luck.

Check the BIOS settings.
Make sure that in the advanced or configuration that the setting to report floppy drives is set to report.

Some tweak guides recommend setting this to not report so that the system boots a little bit faster.

But, whenyou install the OS, this needs to report so that Windows sees the floppy drives.

First, make sure they appear in the BIOS. Next, look for a BIOS update. If they didn't automatically appear after the upgrade Win2K likely didn't detect them.
