Missing Bootup file ntoskrn1.exe

By dkcphoto ·
Vaio laptop VGN-FZ220E with OEM Vista Home Premium purchased 11-09. Ran update driver software, now upon boot, black screen with message in boot manager "need to install original disc (have none)and click on "repair" because of missing file ntoskrn1.exe. Can't get to Safe Mode for "Restore". Spoke to Sony, had to purshase a Recovery Disc (on its way). Do you agree, advise ?

Wait till you get the Recovery Set and do as Windows wants to, to Repair itself. Vista is fairly good at fixing itself when things like this happen.

the recovery disc has the boot files pretty much your gonna run the recovery console off the dvd to reinstall the boot files that are missing. where as the fact that you paid for the disc is normal to keep cost down during original purchase of pc. next time go to another computer download and burn dvd image from

its the samething except without the sony **** name on top of the dvd.
