Missing Cd Drive

Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)
All of a sudden i have no cd drive can anyone help me solve this problem.
For some reasom devicemanager says i have 2 cd drives

Generic Dvd-rom scsicdrom device
Qsi Cdrw/dvd sbw-242

Dell Latitude D800
pentium M 1.4
Windows XP sp 2

I don't think so as that would be an expensive drive and cost more than the D800 to begin with. Go into Device Manager and see what is being listed there. Remove any CD Drives and all the SCSI drivers and then reboot and allow Windows to reinstall the correct drivers.

If you still have the problem run a Registry Repair by following the directions here


If that doesn't fix the mess that you have I would save all your data to some kind of external Storage Device and then Wipe the HDD and reload from scratch with the Dell Recovery CD's.
