Missing hibernate tab

By wesley.chin ·
When I looked in Power Options under the Control Panel in XP, I used to be able to click on a tab to enable hibernation. I recently had to do reinstall Windows XP Pro from scratch. Now Power Options no longer has the tab to enable hibernation. Also when I click shutdown, the option for Standby is greyed out, and the Hibernate option does not appear when hitting Shift. Any ideas on what to do to get the hibernate tab and option back, as well as Standby? The machine is Compaq s5100nx.

GP in effect? BIOS?

by TobiF In reply to Missing hibernate tab

These options may be restricted through a global policy. Is your computer on a domain?

Also: You can only enable hibernation if there is enough of continous free hard drive space available. (There are probably also some demands on what file system you have on the hard drive)

Also: check if there are any corresponding BIOS settings you need to adjust.

Edit: Added BIOS to title.

The computer is not on a domain, no GP

I save all updates on all of the computers I manage, including applied BIOS updates.

Check BIOS again

Well, MS says on their own site:
"If the Hibernate tab is unavailable, your computer does not support this feature."
(Source: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/mobility/getstarted/hibernate.mspx)

So I suggest you double check the BIOS settings.
