I had a Windows/98 machine lock up. When I rebooted the machine most all of the icons were missing from the desktop as well as the programs were missing from the start menu. However using regedit, I can see that the programs are still registered.In fact I can still execute the programs without using the icons. Is there a way to get the programs to show on the start menu without re-installing the programs?
