missing or corrupted ntoskrnl.exe

by kassy . Updated 17 years, 7 months ago

I have been trying to fix this error, it appears upon boot after the bios.

I’m now getting the followning:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\system32\ntoskrnl.exe.
Please re-install a copy of the above file.

I attempted to do this but there was no change after a successful copy

any ideas of my next step?

I am getting a black screen after boot & before the os loads,

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\system32\ntoskrnl.exe.
please re-install a copy of the above file.

I attempted to expand it using the recovery console. the message i get is that the file could not be expanded.

anyone have an idea of what i can do next.

I tried chkdsk c:\ /r too

I followed this to the letter. I got to the point where it asks for the installation to repair. The installation that I need to repair is not listed.
I do have other installations on this drive.

I’m a little new to these forums. I’m not quite sure what a HJT log is.

do you possibly have any other ideas or

suggestions?
