missing RAM and rstrui.exe file

By cj-harter ·
I have a two problem question for one computer.
First my computer won't save scanned in immages or run specific graphics programs (ie. Photoshop). I get a message saying I don't have enough Ram to save/run the file or program. Even though I i have more than enough in reality. Second, when trying to use system restore I get an error message saying file rstrui.exe can't be found in the winsta.dll library. Any ideas of what this could be?

missing RAM and rstrui.exe file

As to the RAM problem, you may not have enough FREE RAM for the programs to run.

For XP, I recommend a BARE minimum of 256MB.
512MB or more is a lot better.

Next, if you have a small size fixed page file, you can severely limit Windows ability to deal with large files such as scanned images.

It is very easy for a scanned image to be 400MB or larger in size.
Remember, when you are editing an image, it is in bitmap mode, and not a compressed mode such a a Jpeg.

Try to limit the number of running programs and open windows when using your scanner.
