Missing Regedit.com

by ignite_light . Updated 20 years ago

I’ve been a member for some time and enjoy reading all the tips and help that everyone shares on here.

Just recently I experienced something on my home pc that just stumped me.

Start/Run/regedit missing?

So I type in regedit.exe instead and up pops my registry editor. Now imediately I check my CA Virus protection and PestPatrol. Everything checks out no viruses. So I’m big on backup, trial, error, replace. So I backup the regedit.exe file, and proceed to change it to regedit.com and then some funny automatic deleting and respawning of the regedit.exe file occurs. At this point I’m thinking crap, I’ve got something my virus scanner doesn’t see.

My quest is to find someone that can give me a possible solution to this, or just tell me to calm down and that it’s nothing to go splitting atoms over.

I’m running Windows XP, 1.8GHZ, 1Gig DDR2. I also use a registry cleaner to remove dead address in my registry.
