Missing Shortcuts

By dogknees ·
I have a PC that has lost all the shortcuts in the Start Menu. All folders are there, but every shortcut is gone.

Anyone seen this? Anyone know what might cause it? Anyone know how to fix it? (Without manually creating every shortcut for every application and tool on the PC)

Thanks

Are you running

Something like CCleaner, which has a tick box for cleaning out such?

I leave that box alone.

Can you get them back from AllUsers profile?

by seanferd In reply to Missing Shortcuts

Or the Admin profile?

Or, have you looked into the actual \Start Menu directories in the users profile? Are the shortcuts there but not displayed in the Start Menu? [e.g., C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu]

I wouldn't hazard a guess as to what caused it, but it sounds just like the type of thing that Windows 95 would do. Could be an icon cache corruption or it could be a dragondrop accident.

edit fix non-Windows directory separator
