Missing start button & sys tray toolbar.

By singleinsask ·
I'm trying to fix a friend's computer, and I can't seem to find the start button, and the system tray toolbar.

Any suggestions?

If you can't find it and drag it up from below the screen, try hitting windows key.

If that doesn't work, you may have a corrupted user account. Does it behave the same way if you logon as another user?

See the MS article for a fix:

If creating a new user account with same permissions brought back the taskbar, then the last step is to copy the files and settings from the old user account to the new one.

Well,I tried what you sent in the Microsoft link, and I got as far as point 15 d). When I went to click on Start, there was no start. Created a new user, the taskbar was there. Starting to think this user acct is corrupt. ANy suggestions?

I would suggest create another account with identical permissions to the account that appears to be corrupt, and then delete the corrupt account using the administrator account.

Try running systray.exe.
