Missing Start button

By Vincehal ·
Win XP SP3 - Start button missing using Task Bar Autohide. When area where Start is supposed to be, is clicked, it reappears. When Task Bar Autohide is turned off, seems to work, but a bit of Desktop shows on right side of button, showing not all is right.

re: Missing Start Button....

Do you have the Quick Launch toolbar turned on? Is that bit of see through space to the right of the button perhaps where the Quick Launch toolbar should be? How many items do you have in the Quick Launch toolbar? Could be, it's taking too long to display the contents of the toolbar, so you see 'see through' space in it's place.

Here's something to try:

First, turn off the Auto Hide till we get it fixed.
Unlock the Taskbar.
If Quick Launch is on, turn it off. If it's off, turn it on.
Lock the Taskbar.
Reboot.
When the computer comes back up, turn the Auto Hide back on and look to see if the start button is back to normal. If it is, reverse the process above to set the Quick Launch toolbar back to the way it was.
