I have recently changed from a SCSI Scanner (Microtek X6EL) to a USB Scanner (Microtek V6USL). I really don’t have any trouble with the scanner or it’s functions as it all appears to work. I noticed though, that the Icon for it in My computer is missing. I have tried uninstalling / reinstalling it & changing the USB port. All to no avail. The Scanner appears in device manager without “!” or “?” or unknown device. (it’s normal). In the Control Panel under Scanners & Cameras, the scanner icon is there & functional. Is there a way to restore the icon in My computer? When I had the SCSI scanner (it is WIA supported) the icon appeared there automatically even without the software. I’ve tried TweakUI Repair Icons, Repair reinstalling the OS. I did find out the key to make the icon appear – HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{6BDD1FC6-810F-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F}\0002\DWORD-Capabilities (currently a “3” chaned to “30”(but the icon was not functional). I don’t believe the scanner model is supported by Windows Imaging acquisition. Any suggestions anyone?
