Missing USB Scanner icon in My Computer:

By eyeris87 ·
I have recently changed from a SCSI Scanner (Microtek X6EL) to a USB Scanner (Microtek V6USL). I really don't have any trouble with the scanner or it's functions as it all appears to work. I noticed though, that the Icon for it in My computer is missing. I have tried uninstalling / reinstalling it & changing the USB port. All to no avail. The Scanner appears in device manager without "!" or "?" or unknown device. (it's normal). In the Control Panel under Scanners & Cameras, the scanner icon is there & functional. Is there a way to restore the icon in My computer? When I had the SCSI scanner (it is WIA supported) the icon appeared there automatically even without the software. I've tried TweakUI Repair Icons, Repair reinstalling the OS. I did find out the key to make the icon appear - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{6BDD1FC6-810F-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F}\0002\DWORD-Capabilities (currently a "3" chaned to "30"(but the icon was not functional). I don't believe the scanner model is supported by Windows Imaging acquisition. Any suggestions anyone?

If I get it right scanners appears in My computer only if it's useful like memory to "remember" some last scans or eventually the last one but it's not a function in all of them. Check the web site of the producent.

Generally speaking USB Scanners Do Nothave any form of Icon appear on either the Desktop or in My Computer as they are not recognised as an Imaging Device like a Cameras or Web Cam.

This is something that is very common with all the current generation of USB scanners.

Thank you, I was just trying to see if I could "force" it to be there. I have a Visioneer Scanner (USB) on another machine & it does show up in "My Computer". Since it is this case the software that puts it there, any suggestions to where I may look to see if I can hack it in?
