MMKEYBD error

By Ritchie Analyst ·
Good Morning World,
Ok a collegue of mine boots up his system and right at the end, win95 desktop is there and bang "MMKEYBD error" is generated and system hangs. This is everytime they are unable to do anything at all. They can move mouse pointerbut not click on anything,
Any ideas? Several different keyboards have been tried and also no error is shown on the boot up sequence. In desperate need of help as its the Bosse's Computer!
Many thanx
Richard

Hello Richard

Well, have you tried to reinstall Win 95. It could be that a particular file has been deleted or corrupted in some way. When did this start happening? Did you check to see if the machine has enough memory to run both Ram and harddrive space.

Technet doesnt seem to mention the MMKEYBD. So my bet is that you are using a non standard keyboard and you need drivers loaded for it to function optimally. What happens if you connect a standard keyboard. can you boot into safemode without gettingthis error. does the keyboard work during post or on a different system? If it gets into safemode without problem remove the keyboard driver/software and reboot in normal mode and reload the driver/software for it. if the keyb doesnt work during post on on a different system you have a keyb problem.

try going into safe mode and removing all entries for keyboards and hid devices and then reboot normally. Let the machine detect the correct keyboard and hopefully you wont get more errors. Do you get the error with no keyboard attached?

I would go with thecosgrove4 here except in safe mode be sure and go to Add/Remove Programs and see if you can find the specialty software that was originally loaded with the Multimedia Keyboard...usually one of those pesky keyboards with 19 gazillion buttons. If the references to this software are not removed from the boot sequence you will never get it going. I would uninstall this software and then try a new keyboard out on the machine...make certain it is a plain old keyboard.

Good Luck
