MMSYSTEM275, AVI’s, and After Effects

by txitguy . Updated 25 years, 5 months ago

Computer: Dell Dimension XPS B600r
Operating System: Windows 98 2nd Edition
Application: Adobe After Effects 4.0
File: .AVI compressed with DVSoft compressor
Applicable Hardware: DV500 capture card

I can import the file into the After Effectsproject window without any problems, but when I attempt to open in editing mode I get the following error:

MCI Error

MMSYSTEM275 Cannot find the specified file. Make sure the path and filename are correct.

This only happens in After Effects, and only with AVI files using the DVSoft compressor. Thus far we have:
* Reinstalled After Effects (3x)
* Reinstalled Windows Multimedia files (2x)
* Reinstalled Windows Media Player (1x)
* Run a repair on IE (1x)
* Extracted msvideo.dll, mciavi.drv, and dciman.dll using System File Checker.
* Reinstalled Windows (1x)
* Reinstalled the capture card drivers (2x)

I have been to Adobe and Dell on this, and they are playing ring-around-the-rosie with me. Adobe is still thinking, and I intend to go back to Dell, but I have 1000 pts if one of you can solve this first.
