Moble users on and off the network

    Locked

    by rickster34 ·

I have several users that use laptops on and off the network including my self. How do I set up a user so that he/she has the same settings on and off the network, IE.. back ground graphics and icons.

Have them logon the same way all the time. If they are part of an NT or 2000 domain, have them always log onto the domain, even when away. They will use “cached” credentials and always have the same profile.

I have done that but when they make changes as themselves the changes go away when they reboot and they are not using the default user profile. I have tried with a local user ID and without one.

From your previous response, I assume your users are Power Users or Administros of their local boxes. That said, I would create a Manadatory Policy .man that is copied from the authenticating AD server to the local workstation with all the desired settings. Changes that are made off line are kept only until the session ends (must like a restricted user).

The other way is to create two profiles, Connected and Standalone or what ever you wish to call them, place your settings in there and based on their decision when starting WIndows 2000 the profile will be used.

If you configure a mandatory policy for the user on the AD server, unless that user is also an AD admin, the policy will not be changed.
