Modem auto Dials

Troubleshooting friends Windows XP Home system using Lucent Win Modem. The modem Auto dials up her ISP when she is not aware of it thus making her phone line busy when she does not want to be logged on. I can’t find any programs that are set to dial in auto mode. The times vary during the day. Most noticeable around 9:30 PM. any suggestions?
