Modem - Couldn't Open Port

By wahidws ·
I can install a modem but cannot use it everytime I power on the PC. I get a message "Couldn't Open Port". In order to use it, I have to remove from Device Manager list and reinstall. How am I going to resolve it?

1. Try the modem in a different slot.
2. Check for updated drivers. (both for the motherboard and the modem)
3. If all else fails, try a modem with a different chipset on it. Some modems just don't work in some motherboards. I have experiancedproblems with specific motherboards and PC-Tel, Lucent, and Intel chipset modems.

Check to see if any FAX ware loaded on set. If so probably holding port open. Might also be Logitech Quick Cam camera holding port even if it is USB until you remove modem and readd driver.
