Hi, I work for a local ISP & we have customers which have alot fo trouble with "software modems" as you are having. The Motorola SM56 is in fact a "software modem" & can cause problems especially if your ISP has digital equipment. I know when we switched to digital, EVERY software modem owning customer we have started calling in complaining about getting disconnected. The temporary fix is to add an INITIALIZATION string, the long term & better fix is to get a good modem that isn't software based, like the US Robotics model # 2977. The appropriate INIT string for your modem is this: AT*MM12 Where to put the string: Start, Settings, Control Panel, Double click on Modem, then click on Properties, then click on Connection tab at the top, then click on Advanced button on lower right, then put the string exactly as I put it up there (caps etc no spaces) in the box on the bottom. The Extra Settings box. Click ok all the way back out, then try connecting again. Should help keep you connected.

HTH,

Best Regards,

Tony
