Modem disconnecting

I have a 6 month old Compaq7470. I have had problems keeping my modem connected to the Internet since I bought it. Technical support has had me try everything (reformatting my hard drive to eliminate software conflicts, checked all my modem settings etc.) They finally came and replaced the modem, but the problem persists. They are blaming my ISP, but I use several and I also have a Mac that I use on the same line and same ISP’s and it doen’t disconnect me. It doesn’t happen all the time, but I cannot figure out a pattern to when it happens. Any ideas? or should I get a cable modem and forget the whole thing?
