Modem Found but not in control panel

By wadams ·
Hi,
I've a system that has me perplexed. I can install a modem (pci, isa, or ext.; mfr. doesn't matter), shows up in device manager, but not in 'modems' in control panel. I'm assuming a registry error, but in comparing the 'modems' registry settingswith other systems, it seems fine. My client is annoyed since this is taking so long. Can someone help me out on this! Much appreciated!

You still need to manually install it in the modems applet.

The add hardware wizard (whether being ran from the control pane or on windows startup) doesn't automatically set this up.

Remove the modem from System devices list then run the Hardware Wizard. If it does not find the modem, install manually thru the wizard. I have seen this before but usually reinstalling will resolve the problem.

Ok...my mistake. I should have been a little clearer. I've tried the hardware detect & modem install..they both work, yet nothing shows up under modems when they finish. Also removing & reinstalling, regsitry cleaning, etc...same effect..install butnothing under modems.

Is there a separate icon in the control panel for the modem you installed? This happened because I had not totally removed the old modem and for some (software?) reason the 2 modems were clashing.

Answer #1 is correct, you could mannually add thenew modem in the modem window.
