Modem install and configuration

By hrawal ·
I have recently installed some Nokia software on an NT box and it seems that this has knocked out the internal modem. The Nokia data cable was installed on COM1 and the internal modem on COM2 (so no conflicts there). However, trying to dial up using the internal modem gives me an 'Unable to connect' or 'Modem is not installed or configued correctly' error. I beleieve that the modem is an Etech PCI and have re-installed using the driver disk provided by the PC manaufacturer. (Manufacturer won't support as I have installed NT).

I had a **** of a job configuring it under NT but did get it working. However, it is proving to be even more difficult now.

Any suggestions ???

You might wan to check your RAS settings to make sure the modem is being used to dial out and not something from the Nokia s/w that you recently installed. If this has to do with anytype of dialup it will most likely be listed in RAS. My bet is thatRas is using your Nokia S/W or something installed by it to dial out.

Set up serial ports correctly in BIOS
Let NT detect the modem,if modem detected select change and have disk
Once modem is detected install the manufacturer's .INF file
If this does not work go to Control Panel:Ports and remove port that modem is connected to
Restart
Go to Control Panel:Ports and configure with correct Base I/O and IRQ

Thanks, but tried that also. Info is useful though - hence the acceptable response.
Have completely removed all modems from the machine and obtained the driver from the PC manuafacturer's website.
Reinstalled the modem and all is OK now.
It seems that the manuafacturer has shipped and older version of the modem driver on the CD's. Have not had any response from the Manufacturer, so cannot confirm this.
