modem not dialing

By choy.waigiat ·
I have installed a internal modem in Win 98. When I try to connect, the modem is not dialing. The error says "Error 630, The modem is not responding properly, Please verify the modem is plug into the computer and to the telephone line."
I have check in Device Manager and the modem is installed with no errors.

Anyone can help?

thanks and regards,

Hi,

Firstly go to Control Panel - Modems. Select the modem you have and run the diagnostics. This checks whether the computer actually sees the modem.

First plug a phone into telephone socket and make sure you get a dial tone. Make sure telephone cable is plugged into correct socket in back of modem (there may be two, one for a phone and one for connecting to telephone socket), make sure they are secure. Try dialing (enable sound to hear that the modem is trying to connect), if no luck replace telephone cable and try again.

Hi

Check the COM port being used by the modem (as shown in Device Manager), the same port that your application is trying to use. Ensure the port is not being used by another device. Also, try uninstalling the modem completely - removing it from the computer, removing the driver, and reinstalling from scratch.

Good luck

go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Modems -> Diagnostics and get More Info from your modem. If it fails, your modem driver is corrupt and needs to be re-installed.
If it works, go back to Modems -> General -> Properties -> Advanced and remove any initialization strings. Try connecting again.
If this fails, create a new Dial up connection using the same modem and try to connect with it.
After you have tried all of these steps, if you are still getting error 630 then it is very likely that the modem itself is physically damaged. Contact your modem?s manufacturer for more help regarding the problem.
