modem not found

I am trying to add an internal modem in NT4sp6. The applet searches for a modem on only com1. I think that the modem is on com2 All com ports are listed in control panel- ports. Help!! com2 is not listed as an available port in the aplet. Help!thanks

If your system has two serial ports, the installation program will create a com 3 or higher. Which will share resources (IRQ) with com 1 and 2.
Check the Bios of the computer you are working on.
Try to disable com2 in the Bios, if you are not using that serial port. In that way you can make sure that IRQ 3 is available.
Move the modem a PCI slot up. That might do the trick too.

Good luck, trial and error is your best approach.
