Hi im troubleshooting a modem on a win 98 compaq p2 computer. The modem wont connect quicker than 2400. The owner has spent hours on the phone with compaq and has reloaded evrything relevant. The line checks out when I hook up my lap top and connects fine. The modem makes strange noices when trying to connect. All the normal speed settings are set high. Arent modems either working or not? Anyone ever heard anything like this? Thank you in advance.
