modem problem

By sliwolf1 ·
I have win xp pro and I just installed xp plus, now it seems that when i try to dial out with pc anywhere it will dial out fine the first time, but if I try to dial out again it says that it can't find a dial tone. If I unplug the phone line and then plug it back in then it will dial out again but only one time. I have a US Robotics 56k modem (internal). any ideas?

The first thing to try is to un-install and re-install the modem.

Start at control panel / modems, and remove the modem from there.

Re-boot the PC, and allow XP to find and install the modem driver.

If that doesn't fix the problem, check the settings for your Dial-Up-Connection.

While not likely, you may need to un-install the modem, and move it to a different slot in the motherboard to get everything to work.

You could also try checking the phone cable your using to make sure it's not faulty. Try and get your hands on another one to trial.
