Modem Problem Internal PCI Card ?

    Locked

    by crabbit ·

I am trying to configure a Motorola SM56 Internal Modem card with Windows 2000 Pro, which was working fine until I tried to re-install it after formatting and reloading the OS. Tried 3 different COM Ports installed and uninstalled the drivers and the card physically and logical many times to no avail ! Using the drivers on the Cd-rom that came with the card but no joy. Have set the dial-up connection with the same ISP as before, but it just attempts to dial and then hangs up, error 692 no modem detected altough windows shows that the device is installed in device manager and no conflicts, my brain is wasted with this one, what have i missed ??

Did you try the latest driver? You can get it from

      http://www.motorola.com/softmodem/driver.htm.

Also note that there is a model with voice and one without.

You may also want to load your chipset drivers. Look at your mainboard or the BIOS boot screen to try and determine if it’s Intel, VIA, SIS, or what. Then load their latest drivers. This often helps with PCI issues. Also, if your PC is slow, you may have trouble using a soft modem.

This will sound strange but some modems, when installed on win2K via the hardware manager in System properties, will not get “re-found” after a re-boot. They install ok but on restart they are not there.

The fix is to re-install them using the Modem section of the Phone & Modem options in Control Panel. No idea why, but some lucent chips did this. Once you re-install them using this technique, they seem to hang in there.

      Good luck

You may need to go and run regedit to see if you have any duplicate folders that may be bring about some DLL problems. Some sytems have a bad habit of not uninstall everything good and then when things get reinstall, the system will some time make duplicate of the files and folders, then you got problems. So you may want to look in here to if you have any duplicate folders. (Word of caution you should back your Registry before making any changes to it.)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\RasMan\PPP\EAP to see if you only two folders 13&4. If you find that you do have more than the two, you could try to rename it to that will fix your problem. (Example 13A)
      Good Luck
