    Modem Problems

    Locked

    by thejourney7 ·

I have a 56k Pci Internal data/fax windows modem. Model # PCI15606. The Modem has been loade manually and auto without results. It has problems recognizing the moded with a port or IRQ this in not the only Modem we have tried this is the 3rd or 4th. Can someone help with getting this resolved to recognize Port and Irq. Any help will be appreciated. O/S windows 95. The machine meet all requirements for the modems we have tried.

In gathering information from your post try these things.
1-Make sure all modems are removed both from windows, and your computer internally.
2-After doing step 1, goto Device Manager and check to see if you have any free IRQ’s.
Another check would be if you have any COM Ports that you do not use remove them from device manager, and disable them in your bios.
3-Then try installing the modem you want to use, if you have the option set the modem to Plug n Play, then install correct driver in Windows.

      Hope these “destructions” help!

We resolved: We had to go back and use an older 56k modem which allowed us to use jumpers so we could use com1. That was the only one it would let me use and they other modems would not recognize any com. Thanks though for the help and input.

Hi from what you have said I guess that the modem type is a software modem, these can give problems and either install like a dream or are a real bitch, if youve tried answer 1 with no luck try it in different pci slots pref not next to AGP and if you have Highpoint UDMA bios not in the slot shared with it.

Just a thought but you will need to make sure you have tcp/ip configured for this device. Especially in win 95
