Modem Problems

By dzone ·
Does anyone know what could cause a modem to dial-up but not connect to the ISP. I've tried two new modems and all the PCI slots to prevail. This started when the first modem failed to dial at all.

Please help.

first off I assume by not connecting you mean it answers & goes through squealing process & hangs up?
if so thare are a lot of possibilites, first have you removed & reinstalled drivers for modem? & is modem the same model you had before if not in your dial up connection it may be trying to use old modem. you can check this by right clicking the dial up icon in dial up networking, also make sure the connection speed is not set to "connect only" at a particular speed these are just a couple of possibilites, if this doesn't help you can email me with more particular information to postmaster@nolfdodge.com

This can be caused by protocols not being configured properly, the IP address could not be identified by the server.
Uninstall the network settings in network neighborhood and then reinstall,by using the connection wizard, make use you are using the modem connection.
Reinstalling will reset all the protocols and network connections.I recently had a similar problem with 98SE operating system using a NIC card and now the client has switched to a modem and the system does not recognize the modem and continues to look for the network configuration to connect.

I used to have the same problem when I was using Winmodems in my computer. I bought a new 33.6K Winmodem way back when, and it would never connect, so I exchanged it, and the same problem again. It would dial, but not establish a connection. Then I went and bought a non Winmodem, and it's worked great ever since.
