Hello, I recently purchased an external V.90 56K modem and installed it. However, ever sine I have installed it and set it up, I have been experiencing problems. Although it connects using the Windows Me Dial-Up Networking settings with no problem, after a certain amount of time it will regularly hang on me (i.e., it will stop downloading web pages, checking for new e-mail etc.). The only way to fix the problem has been to manually disconnect, reconnect, and then repeat this process each time it decides to hang. The same thing happens for large file downloads (i.e., files in the MB range) ? the modem will inexplicably stop sending information so that the download can successfully finish, and then eventually pop up an error message saying something like the download has failed, do you want to retry? (upon which the same thing occurs all over again if I select “retry”). I am almost positive that the problem is not related to either the phone line or ISP that I’m using to connect tothe Web, since I have another computer with another modem using the same line with the same ISP and it never causes me any trouble. Any suggestions or tips as to what might be wrong here would be deeply appreciated.
