modem terminating

By masterp ·
Every time I connect to the internet it connects then about five seconds later it kicks me off. I tried changing the modem but it is still doing it.

If you have changed the modem, I will assume that you re-loaded the modem drivers.

Since you still get kicked off, it means that you are having some problem on your phone line. That can mean the phone wires inside or outside.

I had a customer once a few years ago that could never connect to anything but his voice phone always worked. Turned out there was a family of Squirrels chewing on the wires in the phone wiring box down the street.

It would be in your best interests to contact the phone company and tell them of your problem. They are most likely going to tell you everything is fine but obviously it's not.

First a couple of questions, who is your isp? Has modem ever worked correctly from your location? You may want to try dialing into another isp. Also, be aware of environmental factors. Besides the condition of the phone line, Any splitters? Is crosstalk with other wires a possibility? Electrical devices like fans can cause problems. Any 900 MHz cordless phones in the house, especially in the same room can cause disconnect problems. Unplug the base and return handset to base. Phone cordfrom pc to wall jack should be under 10 ft. Also, enter device manager in safe mode, make sure there are no ghost drivers.
Good luck!
Please respond with any questions.

It does sound like a possible line issue. You could try decreasing the moden connection speed to determine whether that is the case.
The other possibility is that you are having an authentication issue. did you say whether or not you are authenticating with your ISP? If you don't input your usernsme and password manually, it could be stored wrong... thus booting you.

I'm just gonna drop my two cents into this.

Have you checked to see if you're email client is set to DISCONNECT AFTER CHECKING mail?

Good luck.
