Hmmm, that name is familiar somehow

by seanferd In reply to Mods, please ban fox_iacm ...

Posts do look a bit spammy, if fairly on-topic.

I'm curious, as I have run into something kind of similar. Participatory, yet self- promotional. And just asking for spam.<br>

With this info, anyone could delete the (5) accounts! I will not, however. Beth needs to have fun, too, along with any other folks at TR who deal with this type of thing.

Wow...just wow

by jmgarvin In reply to Oho, this is interesting!

I always thought of bugmenot as a good way to get past the stupid registration screens of newspapers...I never thought about STEALING stuff from TR.

Wow, just wow...

I had actually never heard of it before

by seanferd In reply to Wow...just wow

Maybe it is time to investigate further.

Do you find this a generally reputable site or service?

It's pretty grey

The idea is so you can bypass the stupid login screens that many newspapers have now...

So, when you hit a link someone gives you (that's what I use it for) from a paper like the Wallstreet Journal (which requires registration), you don't have to both with it, you can just bypass the whole mess.

I am so frickin' tired of registering with everyone on the planet

by CharlieSpencer In reply to It's pretty grey

when I'm only going to visit their site a single time. This is particularly true for driver files. I usually make something up and make no effort to remember it. If I have to go back there 17 months later, I just make something up again. Bugger 'em!

registering?

by Jaqui In reply to I am so frickin' tired of ...

I only register with a site if I WILL go back there.

and even then, if it's one I'll hit at least once a week.

Which is why Bugmenot is great

by jmgarvin In reply to registering?

So now, I can just get in...do what I need to do, then move on with my life.

Why do so do so many sites require registration just to surf the site!???

I know that's a rhetorical question, but ...

Selling a record of traffic from an IP address without Personally Identifiable Information has zero value to the low-life marketing scum.

Or, do you surf so much you'd need an Oracle Solution?
