Monitor causes PC to hang during boot

By ralston8481 ·
Princeton monitor causes dell pc running W2000 Professional to hang during bios boot. PC will boot with different monitor and Princeton monitor works fine on a different pc. I have tried a different monitor cable and have flashed the BIOS without sucess. The video card is on the motherboard and there is no slot for installing a different video card. The PC emits a continual beep if the Princeton monitor is connected after the PC has been booted with a different monitor. I have never run ito this problem before.

That's odd to say the least the only thing that I can think of is if there is a DVI socket involved this may cause some problems with different monitors. Otherwise this shouldn't be happening unless there is something wrong with the monitor that is allowing it to draw too much power from the system or something stupid like that.

I don't know if this will be of any help but the following is a description of the Beep Codes for BIOS Errors it might do you some good.

Be sure you check the connector at the monitor. A shorted pin could be the cause. Does the Princeton have a VGA or EGA connector? Sometimes in the crossover cable they don't react properly. Hit the DEL key and check the settings for display, look close at the memory amount.
