monitor freezes

By bergeronkathy ·
Anyone have a solution to Dell Latitude CPi monitor freezing when accessing the network -uses Xircom realport 10/100 ethernet- on win2000 switched network card, same problem.
If take network card out it doesn't seem to freeze
but of course can't logon to domain.
Is it possible to test internal port? Thks

When does the system freeze? At the Logon screen?
Will system start in Safe Mode?
Did it ever work before?
Does it work with another monitor?
Try a differnet network card, see what happens.
Startup in VGA mode.

Please try answer all questions, and let me know

Thank you for response.
Yes notebook has worked for approx 2 years with no problems on network.
It does not necessarily lock up at login - could be after 1/2 hour of use or 5 minutes.
Sometimes it locks up when booting and other times it works for awhile. It doesn't seem to lock up when logged as local machine ot if I take the network card completely out.
Have switched network cards and has same problem. Have assigned ip address instead of dhcp assigned and same problem.

Well, does it freeze when you use Safe Mode with Network Support?
Is the machine virus free?
If yes to both questions, check hard drive for errors.
Even better, make a backup right now before you proceed
