Monitor has gray lines

By pjw318 ·
My monitor has gray lines horizontally on the entire screen. It is only where an Icon or lettering or boxes are. If I scroll the screen up or down the lines move with the icons. they do not stay in the same place on the screen. I have changed my power cord, checked the monitor adjustments. Nothing is working. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

I would say you need a new video card. Borrow one if you can, and install it. Does that fix the problem>

Another thing to do is inspect the pins for the monitor connection make sure they're all ok and reseat the video card.

Try booting your system is safe mode Which will bypass your garhics card driver. Does the display look normal? It will be at a lower resolution. If so that would be a good indicator that there might be a problem with your graphics card or the driver.

One other note. If the horizontal lines are at a slight left to right angle then you are seeing the monitors raster which means that your monitor has a problem.

Sounds like your monitor is having horizontal sync problems.

Try it on a different machine to verify.

Good Luck Lee
