More on SCOM?

By pshore73 ·
I am hoping you can help me get some real details on what SCOM can and cannot do, beyond the marketing literature from Microsoft. It is my belief that SCOM provides performance monitoring at the OS level, seem to provide some kind of monitoring at a deeper level for Microsoft server products like SQL and AD, etc. How deep does SCOM really go? I am looking for items that will help me sell it to management. We are a 2003/2008 and Linux server shop. We have AD, SQL Oracle, MySQL in place and in need of detailed monitoring. Additionally, we have plenty of other applications and services, not just DNS and DHCP which monitoring information would be useful for. Thank you in advance!
