More space for SQL Server databases

By kim.kendall@wardgoodman. ·
I have a couple of SQL Server databases used by package applications. The available drive space (RAID5) will undoubtedly run out on the hardware platform (Proliant ML350 G4) in the next six months. Consequently I need more drive space which the databases can use. What's the easiest and most cost-effective way to achieve this?

That depends...

IF you can expand the array that would be nice. It has a potential for problems though if the array goes south.

There are 2 other ways that I like.
1)Get several new drives and create a new partition. This depends on your system and whether it can support additional drives.

2) You don't have to keep the databases on the server. They could be moved to another machine such as a SAN drive or even a large NAS. Then you can expand as needed there.

Best of luck
