More than 1 IP Address to 1 NIC

By atulkpatel ·
Is it possible to assign more than one IP Address on a single NIC on a server which is running WinNT4? I know I can add another NIC and assign an IP Address to that, thus achieving a multi-homed server, but this is not what I am looking to do.

If it is possible, then please provide examples.

Thanks.

Yes, it is very easy to add additional IP addresses to a single NIC card on an NT4 server. To do so:

1. Open the Network control panel and select Protocols then TCP/IP Protocol

2. Click on Properties to see the IP address and the click the Advanced button in the lower right corner of the window

3. In the Advanced IP properties window, click Add and add your additional addresses.

Click OK and restart your server and you are ready to multihome.

Good luck....

It is very much possible to do the same. Open the network applet and open properties page of TCP/IP protocol. Here click on Advanced tab. This page enables you to add more IP addresses, DNS servers, etc. Just add the IP addresses you desire to and clicl OK tab. Restart your computer.

If you are trying to use this computer as a router between two networks ( different subnet masks), u have to enable IP forwarding in the ROUTING page.

Update on developments.
