100,000 degrees Celsius. Anything cooler will slow up the electrons.

VIA no longer has the specification sheet on-line for older chip-sets.

Looking at all of the information that I could find on their web page, I found nothing on chip-set operating temperature.

Realistically, MOST semiconductors can survive operating temperatures of 70 degrees C

To play it safe, and allow for hot spots and poor air flow, I would not worry until the chip temperature exceeded 50 degrees C.
